Another year has come, gone, and what would it be without Google or Facebook telling us what were the biggest trends from this year.
There were a lot of random, strange, and quite possibly dirty searches made on Google this year. Luckily the company went through all the data for us and compiled a Zeitgeist with all the nitty gritty of 2012. The top searches for 2012 were:
- Whitney Houston
- Gangnam Style
- Hurricane Sandy
- iPad 3
- Diablo 3
- Kate Middleton
- Olympics 2012
- Amanda Todd
- Michael Clarke Duncan
The Zeitgeist includes the top trending atheletes, images, events, people, films, tv shows, performing artists, electronics, airlines, and Google+ hastags. You can even narrow your view by checking out top searches by country.
Facebook soon followed suit revealing the most talked about events on the network for 11 countries. For the U.S. the single most discussed event was the election, with the Super Bowl and the death of Whitney Houston right behind it. Hurricane Sandy ranked fourth on the list.
In the U.K., The London Olympics took the top trend crown, while 50 shades of Grey was the biggest trend on Facebook in Australia.
The social networking site also listed out the most popular songs, check-ins, memes, movies, and books. The top song in the U.S. was “We Are Young” by Fun, the top check-in was Times Square, and the top 3 books were all from the Hunger Games series (thank god it wasn’t Twilight!).
There’s also an option to look at your own biggest moments of the year and of course share it with your friends.
In review, what was your biggest moment this year?
