The film Captain America: The Winter Soldier begins production today and to celebrate Marvel Studios has released a teasing behind the scenes photo along with new details about the anticipated sequel.
The newest Captain America adventure takes place largely in the present day and follows the events of last summer’s The Avengers. The title alone tells us the villain for the sequel will be none other that The Winter Soldier, a bio-engineered warrior created using familiar face from Caps past.
The start of shooting announcement suggests that both Black Widow and Nick Fury will be the supporting roles in the film since in Winter Soldier, Cap will find himself tangling with the heads of S.H.I.E.L.D.
The official logline of the film is:
“Steve Rogers struggles to embrace his role in the modern world and teams up with Natasha Romanoff, aka Black Widow, to battle a powerful yet shadowy enemy in present-day Washington, D.C.”
Robert Redford is cast in the film as the high-ranking S.H.I.E.L.D. official and confidante of Nick Fury: Alexander Pierce. Pierce is a former agent who is settled as an undercover sleeper cell until he is pulled back into the organization to help run it.
There will be flashbacks (yay!) since Hayley Atwell will be returning to the film as Peggy Carter, Roger’s love interest from the first film. Toby Jones, who also co-starred in the original as HYDRA scientist Arnim Zola will also be returning.
The love interest of Captain America in the future will be Agent 13, and played by Emily VanCamp. Fans of the comic are familiar with the agent and know the spoiler-rific story behind her mysterious name.
The sequel is due to hit theaters on April 4,th 2014.
