The reviews are in for Halo 4, which you unpatriotic suckers were probably waiting in line for rather than doing your civic duty to decide who is going to misrepresent us to the world next. Here’s a breakdown of the general feeling critics had toward the latest addition to one of the biggest FPS franchises of all time.
The entire games journalism industry lit up with the latest addition of the Halo franchise. Thus far, Metacritic has it rated at “generally favorable reviews.” The truth is, a lot of people really enjoy it, and there are very few negative reviews.
Machinima gave Halo 4 unreserved acclaim:
The visuals have been massively overhauled to make this the best looking Halo, if not the best looking 360 game to date.
Joystiq even appeared to be getting sexual with their review:
The developer launches the best kind of protest, which is to wave an impressive, throbbing shooter in your face. Trust me, you want this.
As far as the revitalization of the brand, IGN was ecstatic over the next-generation possibilites of the game series.
Halo 4 is a masterstroke everyone can and should celebrate, and its two guaranteed sequels instantly make the next-generation Xbox a must-own system, with Halo 5 its most anticipated title. Halo has been rebuilt. It has been redefined. And it has been reinvigorated. The Xbox’s original king has returned to his rightful place on the throne.
All wasn’t roses, however. Quarter To Three was not at all pleased with the game and pretty much just flipped it the bird. With both hands. I don’t know how they were operating the keyboard while they did it. Listen, I don’t have the game yet, I’m just trying to get through this post so I can go to sleep. We covered five hours live. I didn’t leave the office until midnight. Leave me alone.
Here’s what they said:
A shiny old dog without any new tricks. I got more out of the Halo 1 remake, which at least had the appeal of nostalgia. Playing through an updated version of the original Halo was at times tired or tedious.
So, yeah, here’s your fuckin’ question.
Question: Do you own Halo 4? How does it compare to the rest of the series?
