In 2011, Russian billionaire Dmitry Itskov started the 2045 Initiative. 2 years later he has finally unveiled his plans for immortality.
The rich Russian is planning on making humanity into Sterling Archer’s worst nightmare: he wants to turn us all into Terminator-esque cyborgs. The Ghost in the Shell like conversion will end ultimately in the transfer of a person’s mind or conciousness complete with memories and personality into a machine.
We all know how well that worked out for GlaDoS.
The first goal for Itskov towards his ambition is called Avatar A, in which a person controls a robot human replica through a brain to machine interface (BMI)
Surrogate. The deadline for this first stage? 2020.
The Avatar B, which will follow just five years later will involve transplanting a human brain into an artificial body “at the end of one’s life.” After that he wants to develop Avatar C wish would roll out around 2035 that would transplant the brain to a machine complete with the personality intact.
Itskov hopes to free humanity from physical form by 2045. The project website states:
“We believe that it is possible and necessary to eliminate ageing and even death, and to overcome the fundamental limits of the physical and mental capabilities currently set by the restrictions of the physical body.”
Itskov is currently recruiting scientists and writing an open letter to UN secretary-general Ban Ki-moon, in an attemp to convince him to support to push society’s transition to “neo-humanity.”
