Kyle Lee Stocking, a 22-year-old man from Utah, died on Sunday after attempting to recreate the famous rock arch Rope Swing videos from YouTube.
YouTube Star devinsupertramp and many other extreme sports enthusiasts have uploaded videos of individuals swinging underneath the famous Corona Arch near Moab, Utah. However, they take many precautions and come extremely prepared to those jumps.
Kyle Lee Stocking and his 5 friends were looking to recreate those videos, but they unfortunately gave themselves too much slack for their rope swing.
Kyle fell about 140 feet and collided with the ground below the arch. When paramedics arrived, he was pronounced dead. Officers who arrived on the scene are still baffled as to how Kyle thought that it would be safe to jump without checking his rope.
Stocking’s parents, Mike and Linda, stated,
‘It is the most tragic experience to receive the phone call from the sheriff letting you know that your son has been killed in a terrible accident that could have been avoided. It is the most awful experience a parent could go through.’
The Utah Trust Lands are looking at a way of curbing the number of private groups that are flocking to their national parks to participate in these extreme sports. The Utah Trust Lands have been able to ban commercial groups from paying clients to participate in rope swinging.
