14 year-old actress Ariel Winter of “Modern Family” fame has been removed from her mother’s custody amid allegations she was being physically and mentally abused.
According to TMZ, sources say that during guardianship hearing on October 3rd, a judge determined allegations that the actress was being abused by her mother Crystal Workmann were serious enough to place Ariel under temporary guardianship of her sister Shanelle Workmann. Her mother has been reportedly ordered to stay 100 yards away from her.
Also it seems that Shanelle Workmann suffered from the same abuse as Ariel. Almost twenty years ago the sibling was removed from the home based on similar abuse allegations and was placed in foster care for over two years. Shanelle never returned to the custody of her mother.
The actresses mother was accused in the guardianship filings of “ongoing physical abuse” that was described as slapping and hitting, as well as name–calling and personal insults.
Crystal Workmann is currently denying allegations of abuse stating:
“It’s all untrue, it’s all untrue,” she said to the magazine. I have my doctor’s letter that my daughter’s never been abused… I have stylists’ letters that she’s never been abused.”
When reached by phone, Crystal Workman stated she was in the process of hiring an attorney.
A additional hearing has been set for November 20th.
