Arnold Schwarzenegger has signed on to appear in the upcoming Terminators 5 and 6.
Producer Megan Ellison of Annapurna Pictures has sealed the deal with Pacific Corporation for the rights to The Terminator franchise, and managed to get the actor to commit to appearing in the film.
Ellison is known for having produced Zero Dark Thirty, Silver Linings Playbook, and The Master. She will be partnering with her brother David Ellison, of Skydance Productions. Skydance has produced Mission Impossible: Ghost Protocol, Jack Reacher, and Star Trek: Into the Darkness.
The duo will own the right to The Terminator until 2019, and then the rights return to James Cameron. Cameron wrote and directed the first and second Terminator films (also known as the only good Terminator films.) He also wrote the television series Terminator: The Sarah Connor Chronicles and wrote several of the games as well.
During the short time the pair own the rights, they plan on filming and releasing Terminators 5 and 6. The Ellisons have a strong track record of taking up untouchable projects and succeeding. Hopefully, the trend will continue and we get the awesome Terminator films we’ve deserved since Terminator 2.
