There’s little sympathy to go around for the man who found out from police that his rape victim was HIV positive.
The attacker, Richard Thomas, was convicted of raping a woman and collapsed after being informed of his victim’s disease.
Thomas broke into the house of an acquaintance in July and assaulted the woman asleep in her bed. The victim, who had taken a sleeping pill, woke up to the assault.
Thomas claimed to be under the influence of multiple narcotics and that he did not recall the events that transpired. However, he did believe his victim’s version of events.
Prior to sentencing, the rapist was informed by police that his victim has tested positive for HIV and nearly collapsed from the shock.
Even his own lawyer, Virginia Hayton, expressed no sympathy for the man stating:
“…it is his own fault, if he had not committed this offence, he would not have placed himself in this position.”
Thomas was sentenced to five years and four months. He is still awaiting the results of his own test.
