The controversial Ugandan anti-gay bill that was signed by Ugandan President Yoweri Musveni in February has been struck down due to a technicality!

Vladamir Putin has been shrugging off allegations of corruption regarding the Sochi Olympics for months, but now an amazing infographic has popped up on the internet with every allegation listed for the world to see and explore.

“If anyone has such information, give it to us, please. I repeat once again, we will be grateful, but so far there has been nothing but talk.”

Well, talk has been substantiated at this point with an interactive infographic created by anti-corruption campaigner and opposition firebrand Alexey Navalny, has catalogued every shady thing done in honor of the games.

It was incredibly difficult for Navalny and his team to figure out what the total cost of the Olympics is, since the Russian government stopped publishing numbers in 2006.

The team of 23 people spent two months sifting through documents and found that that the Kremlin, the province of Krasnodar that includes Sochi, state-run corporations, and Russia’s state development bank accounted for over 96% of total Olympic spending — 30% of which was given to offshore companies whose real owners are unknown.

96% of the spending for the Olympic games are coming straight out of the Russian tax payers pocket even though the Kremlin has said that half the money spent would come from private investors.

The new Olympic Stadium is two and a half times more expensive than similar stadiums in Europe. The company building the stadium is wrapped up in embezzlement charges, and did we mention that the top 3 contractors for building in preparation for the Olympics, are 3 of Putin’s best friends?

The list goes on for ages, from the local governor spent $15 million in Olympic funds on a helicopter for himself to Putin spending Russian Orthodox Christmas in a new $15 million church paid for out of the Olympic budget.

Couple all of these corruption allegations with the recent string of anti-gay legislation put into place, and the games may be as corrupt as the 1936 games in Germany.

Recently the mayor of Sochi even claimed that there were no gay people in his city. When asked about whether or not gay people had to hide their sexuality he responded:

“No, we just say that it is your business, it’s your life. But it’s not accepted here in the Caucasus where we live. We do not have them in our city.”

He did extend an invitation to gays, saying that they were welcome as long as they respected Russian laws and don’t impose their habits on others.

President Obama appeared on The Tonight Show with Jay Leno, and stated that he has ‘no patience’ with Russia’s anti-gay law and is disappointed with Russia’s decision to not turn Snowden over to the US.

More specifically, President Obama stated that he will have:

“no patience for countries that try to treat gays and lesbians and transgendered persons in ways that intimidate them or are harmful to them.”

Obama went on to say the Russia has a huge stake in making the Olympics work. He continued:

“I think they understand that for most of the countries that participate in the Olympics, we wouldn’t tolerate gays and lesbians being treated differently … One of the things I think is very important for me to speak out on is making sure that people are treated fairly and justly because that’s what we stand for, and I believe that that’s a precept that’s not unique to America. That’s just something that should apply everywhere.”

In other gay rights related news, Stephen Fry released an open letter to the IOC, begging them to take a stand against Russia’s anti-gay law.

Fry asks the IOC to ban the Sochi Winter Olympics entirely, begging them to be held in any other location. Fry relates Putin’s anti-gay laws to Hitler using Jews as scapegoats in the 1930′s.

Do you think the IOC should ban the Winter Olympics in Russia because of the anti-gay legislation?

Uganda’s infamous Anti-Homosexuality Bill will pass before 2013.

The bill, designed to persecute the gay population across the country is being put to vote before the end of the year, according to the Speaker of the Parliament Rebecca Kadaga. If the bill should pass, same-sex relationships will fall into two classes of offense: Aggravated Homosexuality and The Offense of Homosexuality.

“Aggravated homosexuality” is defined to include homosexual acts committed by a person who is HIV-positive, is a parent or authority figure, or who administers intoxicating substances, homosexual acts committed on minors or people with disabilities, and repeat offenders. The penalty for “aggravated homosexuality” is death if the offender is found guilty.

“The offence of homosexuality” is defined to include same-sex sexual acts, involvement in a same-sex marriage, or an attempt to commit aggravated homosexuality. The offense has provisions for Ugandans who engage in same-sex relations outside of the country, stating that a citizen could be extradited back to the country for penalization. For the “offense of homosexuality” the offender will receive life imprisonment.

The bill also has penalties for individuals, companies, media organizations and non-governmental organizations who “know” of individuals who are gay or support LGBT rights.

Essentially it will be impossible for someone who is homosexual to live in the country of Uganda without being killed or kept in prison for the rest of their lives.  As if it were not difficult enough already with same-sex relations being punishable with up to 14 years in prison. In a day and age where the world seems to be progressing forward in light of gay marriage passing in Maryland, Maine, and Washington State, some individuals seem determined to put us back into the dark ages.
