The Great Gatsby Trailer Released!

The trailer for the upcoming adaptation being undertaken by Baz Luhrmann has been released today!

Personally, I am an enormous fan of the book and if the film delivers on what the trailer is offering, then Luhrmann has created the greatest adaptation seen yet.

The trailer starts off with music by Florence and the Machine, and highlights what makes Jay Gatsby’s character so magnetic to narrator Nick Carraway. Then the tone switches with a fantastic cover of ‘So Happy Together’ by Filter. It then begins showing us the darker undertones of the film, eventually we begin to see the darkness that lies within Gatsby himself.

The film centers around Nick Carraway, a Midwesterner now living on Long Island. Nick finds himself fascinated by the mysterious past and lavish lifestyle of his neighbor, Jay Gatsby. He is drawn into Gatsby’s circle, becoming a witness to obsession and tragedy.

The Great Gatsby stars Leonardo DiCaprio as the iconic Jay Gatsby. Toby Maguire as the enigmatic narrator Nick Carraway, and Carey Mulligan will be playing as the delicate Daisy Buchanan.

This trailer has gotten me really excited to see The Great Gatsby, what did you think of it?

  1. I’m a huge (HUGE!!) Fitzgerald fan and have a feeling that I’ll be critiquing the film the whole way through the first time I see it. I have extremely high hopes and expectations for this, so I really hope the film delivers.

  2. Why do you guys at scourcefed sound like you have never heard of the Robert Redford movie of the great gatsby?.. its a classic.. but in the several times you guys have spoke of this new movie you talk as if it’s the first time the book has been brought to the silver screen???

    1. I don’t think that’s the case. In this article alone it is stated that in their opinion this might be the best adaptation of the book yet, so clearly they are aware of other adaptations, including the Robert Redford movie.

  3. I never really liked the great gatsby, he just seemed like a stubborn, conceded, spoiled young man who didn’t really care for much. However the movie seems promising.

  4. The trailer starts off with Kanye West & Jay-Z’s “No Church Wild” not Florence and the Machine. Thanks for the mention of Filter’s cover though. I was trying to find who that was.

  5. What the heck is with the music? It’s supposed to be the roaring 20’s. Film looks great, but there is a lot more to setting besides just the visual component. Sound is huge.
