The planet is called ’55 Cancri e,’ instead of its proper title, ‘BLING!11’

The newly-discovered planet is over twice the size of Earth and orbits a star that is visible to the naked eye. Its mass is eight times greater, as well, which makes sense, given that it’s 1/3 diamond.

Fun Fact: A year on BLING!11 lasts 18 hours, due to its speed.

Funner Fact: Its surface temperature is almost 4,000 degrees F! Should be cooler, what with all that ice….

Funnest Fact: The planet is 230 trillion miles away, so reach for the stars, kids! And if you don’t make it, it’s probably because you starved to death before you were even a fraction of the way there!

It was discovered by a U.S.-Franco research team, which is a research team made up of U.S. researchers and James Franco. I made that Franco part up.

  1. Doctor Who called diamond planets exist and nothing can live on them… except what ever it was that took over that person

  2. Now all we need is a Death Star*.

*In the Expanded Universe, The Death Star was originally conceived as an interplanetary mining station.

  3. Yes, I’m surprised that Soucefed did not pick up on the Doctor Who connection, and that this planet is OBVIOUSLY Midnight, and should officially be named as such. 😛

  4. If you want to know what life on Midnight is like, just watch Doctor Who 4×11. Allons-y!

  5. Ya’ll crack me up!! That is greatness. It is sad to hear about all the cool ass planets everywhere knowing we will never get to touch one of them 🙁
