Military and defense agencies often operate very large facilities. For obvious reasons, it’s important to keep these facilities safe and secure. Along with protecting them from those who wish to do our country harm, it’s imperative to protect them from hazards that can endanger those inside or cause damage to valuable files, tools, or resources.
The following are just a few ways to secure these facilities. They’re particularly suited for environments that are relatively large and may consist of numerous rooms and spaces.
Use Standalone Fire Suppression Systems
Installing a traditional sprinkler-based fire suppression system in a relatively large facility can be a challenge, as it requires installing piping and various other elements that must all connect with one another in a network.
Luckily, there are alternative options. For example, standalone fire suppression systems are cylinders that can be installed to the ceilings of rooms. They’re effective at extinguishing fires, but they don’t need any additional pipes or connections to function properly. They can also easily be moved from one space to another, which is, of course, not an option with a sprinkler system.
Use Computers as Security Cameras
Surveillance cameras can play a critical role in keeping large military and defense facilities secure against USA crime.
. However, installing enough security cameras so that all rooms and spaces within a large facility are properly monitored can be impractical and costly.
There’s a solution to this problem that may not necessarily be feasible at all military facilities, but could be effective at some. Except in instances when there’s concern over potential hacking, computers with webcams throughout a facility can be used as secondary security cameras. While leaving a webcam on may not deter intruders and criminals the way visible security cameras can, if crimes do occur within a facility, webcams could potentially provide footage that may result in the identification and arrest of those involved.
Webcams aren’t the only types of cameras that can serve this purpose. For example, unless someone is accessing a restricted area where video recording isn’t permitted, those who work at large military facilities could be required to wear bodycams that are kept on at all times. This allows for an even greater degree of surveillance.
Upgrade Access Control
Many of the military and defense facilities throughout the United States are quite old. Thus, it’s not uncommon for their access control features to be somewhat outdated.
Access control features have the potential to substantially improve security at large facilities. Those in charge of making decisions related to facility upgrades should inspect current access control features and replace them with new ones whenever necessary. It’s also a good idea to review policies regarding who should and should not be granted access to certain restricted areas. If it’s determined that current policies have been too lax, resulting in unanticipated security breaches, it may be a good idea to change them accordingly.
These are all ideas worth considering and implementing. Again, it goes without saying that keeping military and defense facilities safe and secure is vital. These are just a few ways to go about achieving this important goal.
