From Real Estate Development to Home Services: Why Taylor Klemm Sees Opportunity Where Others Don’t

Published on

Taylor Klemm trained as an architect and spent his early career on a development portfolio worth nearly $5 billion. Today he owns three home-service brands, and he argues the sector deserves a closer look from anyone thinking about ownership.

Taylor Klemm began his career with formal training in architecture. He earned a master’s degree from Columbia University and moved into real estate development, where he held leadership roles within major private organizations.

The numbers from that period are large. Klemm was responsible for overseeing nearly $5 billion in real estate development projects. On his own account, he developed approximately $50 million in luxury real estate. He hit both marks before he turned 30.

A career built on transitions

Klemm describes his path as a series of deliberate moves into unfamiliar territory. He went from designing and developing luxury real estate to overseeing multibillion-dollar development portfolios. He co-founded an investor-backed company that raised more than $50 million, then sold his ownership interests. Along the way he held leadership positions within multibillion-dollar public and private companies.

In his 30s he made his sharpest turn. He left institutional real estate development and corporate leadership to own home-service businesses, and he now owns three home-service brands.

Each transition, Klemm said, reinforced the same belief. The fundamentals of building a successful business carry across industries, and he names them: leadership, financial discipline, strong systems and consistent execution.

The overlooked sector

Klemm calls home services an often-overlooked segment of the economy, and he is particularly passionate about it.

“These companies provide essential services, can generate meaningful revenue without requiring revolutionary technology, and offer opportunities for entrepreneurs who are willing to learn, execute, and build strong operations.”

He pushes back on the belief that a business needs a breakthrough product to work. In Klemm’s experience, success in business rarely comes from having the best idea. Owners win on execution, consistency and resilience, and on the people they surround themselves with.

From developer to operator

Running service businesses keeps Klemm close to the work. He deals with the same problems any local owner faces, from customer acquisition and sales to hiring, managing teams and developing systems. The scale looks nothing like a $5 billion development portfolio. The discipline, he says, carries over.

In 2026 the Consumer Ratings Institute recognized Klemm as “Top 1%,” recognition he connects to a commitment to quality and customer satisfaction in home services.

His work in the sector led him to found Buy Low USA, which helps individuals launch and own home-service businesses under their own brands. The company packages the systems, infrastructure, training and practical guidance Klemm developed through real-world operations. “Our goal is to remove many of the traditional barriers to getting started while allowing our customers to retain ownership and control of what they build,” he said.

Klemm keeps his pitch sober. He tells aspiring owners that the work demands learning, execution and the discipline to build sustainable operations, and that setbacks come with the territory. He considers the most distinctive part of his career to be “the breadth of experience I’ve accumulated across dramatically different business environments.”

He plans to keep applying those lessons to creating, growing and helping others build independently owned businesses.
