CBD oil has so many applications that it is only natural that it has found its way into the beauty and skincare industry. There are several creams, serums, and cleaners that have it as a cleansing and skin rejuvenating product, and their popularity is growing by the day. Indeed, a recent report by Market Watch indicates that the global CBD cosmetics segment is worth around $580 million, while Grand View Research reckons that this market will grow to $1.7 billion by 2025.

How does CBD benefit the skin?

Like most other herbs, cannabidiol is packed with antioxidants and anti-inflammatory compounds that heal and nourish the skin. These natural chemicals soothe inflammation and stiffness on the skin while increasing protection from damage caused by free radicals.

CBD combats acne by suppressing the secretion of sebum, which is the substance that causes the ugly spots on the skin. Preliminary studies also indicate that cannabidiol may work as a remedy for psoriasis and eczema in the future.

Types of cannabidiol products

CBD products come in three categories of:

• CBD isolate

• Broad-spectrum CBD oil

• Full-spectrum CBD oil

Full-spectrum cannabidiol includes all the substances present in the hemp extract, including THC. THC (tetrahydrocannabinol) is the psychoactive agent in all cannabis Sativa plants though it is in very low concentration in the hemp herb used to produce CBD. Meanwhile, Broad-spectrum cannabidiol contains all the other compounds found in the hemp extract, such as flavonoids and terpenes, but has no THC.

CBD isolate is the pure form of Canabidoil, which is refined to remove the other substances found in the hemp extract. It is most suited to facial products because it does not accumulate in the pores and contains antioxidants that rejuvenate the skin. However, all the three extracts produce radiant skin with an even tone when applied properly.

The safety of CBD cosmetics

CBD products are safe to use on the skin even though their benefits may be contested. Most dermatologists concede that beauty products containing cannabidiol do not cause harm as long as you use them for topical applications only. In cases where consumers get adverse reactions, the inflammation is caused by another ingredient that is unrelated to CBD.

What to look for in CBD cosmetics

When shopping for CBD cosmetics, you should look out for the category on the label because it is an indicator of the purity of the extract used. Other terms used to describe cannabidiol products include “hemp extract” and “hemp CBD.” At the same time, some vendors sell cannabis or hemp seed oil, which is not the same as CBD. CBD comes from flowers and leaves, while the later is an extract of dry seeds. Further, CBD is light and flows easily, while seed oil is very thick. You should also check the CBD content on the label. Typically, healing oils have higher CBD content than ordinary beauty products.
